Discrimination against Okinawa

Today is the Okinawa Memorial Day.

The title is what Miyadai-sensei often points out. People want military base in Japan but don’t want it near them, so imposing military bases on Okinawa, at the same time being ignorant to the issues caused there.

I’m a person who don’t want military bases at all, so I’d feel like insisting I’m not discriminating Okinawa, but I also reflect that I haven’t paid attention to Okinawa enough.

I remember 6th August (atomic bombing on Hiroshima), 9th August (atomic bombing on Nagasaki) and 15th August (Victory over Japan Day) or March 11 (Tohoku earthquake and tsunami), but I didn’t remember Okinawa Memorial Day is 23rd June.

Aspiring ‘blogger’ Sawafuji-san often picks up issues of Okinawa, so I feel a little familiar with Okinawa as his blog’s reader, but the dates haven’t stayed in my head… while he never misses the Memorial Day or the day of Okinawa reversion, or any day.

One fourth of Okinawa population died at that time, and some of them were killed by Japanese Army… how shocking but it is what actually happened.

Let’s pray for OKinawa today.

Having said that, today’s ‘time for that’

I’ve read memoirs of one of legendary manga artist Moto Hagio, “A One-Time Story about Oizumi”. I read autobiography of another famous manga artist Keiko Takemiya a few years ago, and this book was written in reaction to that book.

Fans of them already know for so long that these two used to live together and be friends, but their friendship has ended forever at some point. With two books, now we more or less know what have actually happened.

Yeah we are just curious onlookers, but it’s so sad that two of our favourite authors, who could have stayed as good friends, perhaps if they had been older when that have happened, are not related at all anymore.

Relationships are hard….

I’m curious to know what Chiki Ogiue writes about this, but gave up reading as it wasn’t free… hope anyone tells me.

Mo-sama has many famous works including “The Poe Clan” and “The Heart of Thomas” but I like “They Were Eleven” the best!
